# Change order

**A change order is a written, signed agreement that changes the scope, price or schedule of work already under contract, for example extra rooms, a higher finish level or a repair after another trade's damage.**

## Why it matters on a drywall job

- Extra work done on a verbal OK is easy to dispute at billing time.
- A signed change order is what lets you add the extra to your next pay application.
- Tracking change orders in one log helps you spot approved extras that haven't been billed yet.
