# General contractor (GC)

**The general contractor holds the main contract with the owner, runs the job and hires subcontractors such as drywall crews.**

## Why it matters on a drywall job

- The GC usually approves your change orders and pay apps, so their process sets your payment timing.
- Knowing each GC's cutoffs, forms and contacts saves back-and-forth.
