# Free drywall scope of work template (English + Spanish)

**A drywall scope of work lists what your crew will do on a job, what it won't do, and who does the rest. This free bilingual template is an inclusions / exclusions checklist with column headers in English and Spanish and the common drywall scope lines already written (board supply, hang, level of finish, texture, corner bead, patching after other trades, fire tape, access, cleanup, overtime), so the office can mark each one included or excluded and confirm it with the GC before the crew starts.**

The column headers are in both languages. The EJEMPLO row is **sample data** with placeholders like [section], not a real job. Use it with the free [drywall bid sheet](/templates/drywall-bid-sheet-template.html) and [estimate template](/templates/drywall-estimate-template.html): those price the job, this sheet makes clear what the price covers.

## Why write down the drywall scope

- **Change-order fights start with an unclear scope.** When nobody wrote down whether texture, patching or cleanup was included, the GC and the sub remember it differently. A line marked "Included" or "Excluded" settles it before the work, not after.
- **Level of finish and texture.** Level 4 vs. Level 5, or smooth vs. knockdown, changes the work. Writing the [level of finish](/guides/drywall-finish-levels.html) and texture type for each area keeps everyone on the same page.
- **Patching after other trades.** Electricians, plumbers and HVAC crews cut into finished walls. If patching isn't in the scope, it's extra work and should be on a [change order](/guides/change-order-template.html).
- **Who supplies what.** Board supply, delivery and stocking, scaffolding and lifts, haul-off and temporary heat or power are often split between the sub and the GC. A "By whom" column says who.
- **Fire tape and firestopping.** Fire tape in rated or hidden areas and firestopping at penetrations are easy to assume someone else is doing. Put each on its own line.

## How to use it

1. **One sheet per job.** Save a copy of the CSV for each job and write the job name in the file name.
2. **Go line by line.** For every scope line, mark "Included" or "Excluded". Don't leave a line blank: blank is how fights start.
3. **Say who does it.** In "By whom", write us, GC or other (another trade), so the excluded lines still have an owner.
4. **Write the level and type.** Level of finish and texture type per area, corner bead type, board type and the height you call high work.
5. **Match the estimate.** Make sure the scope matches the [estimate](/templates/drywall-estimate-template.html) or proposal you sent, including the [exclusions](/glossary/exclusions.html).
6. **Confirm it with the GC before the crew starts.** Send the scope (email below) and write who confirmed it and when in the last column. Anything outside it goes on a [T&M ticket](/templates/drywall-tm-ticket-template.html) and a signed change order.

### Email to the GC confirming the scope before you start

A short email in both languages. It uses "usted", the respectful form most offices use with a GC.

```
Asunto / Subject: Confirmación de alcance / Scope confirmation: [job] - drywall
Buenos días / Good morning, [name / nombre]:
Antes de empezar, le mando el alcance de drywall para esta obra para que lo revise. / Before we start, here is the drywall scope for this job for your review.
Obra / Job: [job name and address / nombre y dirección]
Incluido / Included: [hang, tape, finish level per area, texture type, corner bead... / colgar, encintar, nivel de acabado por área, tipo de textura, esquinero...]
Por otros / By others: [board supply, scaffolding... / suministro de tablaroca, andamios...]
Fecha de inicio / Start date: [date / fecha]
¿Me puede confirmar que esto está correcto o decirme qué hay que cambiar? Cualquier trabajo fuera de este alcance necesitará una orden de cambio firmada antes de hacerlo.
Could you please confirm this is correct or tell me what needs to change? Any work outside this scope will need a signed change order before it's done.
Gracias / Thank you,
## Frequently asked questions
### What is a drywall scope of work?
A list of what your crew will do on a job and what it won't: hang, tape and finish, level of finish and texture by area, corner bead, patching, access, cleanup, and who supplies the board and the rest.
### What should a drywall scope of work include?
At least the lines in this template: board supply and type, hang walls and ceilings, corner bead, level of finish, texture, primer, patching after other trades, fire tape, scaffolding and lifts, cleanup and haul-off, overtime, and how extra work is approved.
### Why list exclusions too?
Because most change-order fights are about work one side thought was included. Writing "Excluded" and who does it instead makes that clear before the work starts.
### Is this the same as an estimate?
No. The estimate or proposal gives the price. The scope of work says what that price covers. Many subs attach the scope to the estimate.
### What if the GC asks for something that isn't in the scope?
Write it on a T&M / extra work ticket and get a signed change order before the crew does it, so it can be billed.
### Do I need TapeAndFloat to use this template?
No. The CSV is free and works in Excel or Google Sheets with no sign-up. TapeAndFloat is a separate AI office assistant that keeps jobs, crews and money straight in a Google Sheet and flags change orders with no written approval or no matching invoice line, so extras don't go unbilled.
