About TapeAndFloat

TapeAndFloat is a small team in Austin, Texas building software for the office side of drywall companies. We're early. We'd rather tell you that up front than pretend otherwise.

A note from James

I'm James Grokman, founder and CEO.

We started out building a marketplace to connect drywall hangers and finishers with the people who hire them. The more we talked to drywall companies, the more we kept hearing about the office, not the crews. One person, often the owner's wife, keeps the whole operation together from texts, voicemails, a notebook and a spreadsheet. When something slips, like an extra that never got billed, an invoice nobody chased, or a lien deadline that went by, it costs real money. And nobody has time to step back and ask which jobs and which GCs actually made money.

So that's what we're building first: an assistant that does her grunt work, catches those mistakes, and helps explain the numbers. It's meant to cost about what a couple of lunches cost each month, not what big construction software charges. The marketplace idea isn't gone. It will come later as a feature inside the assistant, for when a crew is short.

If you run the office at a drywall company, I'd like to hear how you do it today, even if you never use what we build. Fifteen minutes, no sales pitch.
