Punch list
By James Grokman, CEO, TapeAndFloat · Updated 2026-10-28
A punch list is the list of small fixes and touch-ups the GC or owner wants done before your work is accepted, such as dings, visible joints, nail pops or missed corners.
Why it matters on a drywall job
- Finishing your punch items is often what stands between you and final payment or retainage release.
- Damage from other trades can show up on your punch list. With photos and a note on who caused it, that repair may be billable as a documented change order or backcharge, depending on your contract.
