Ready-mix joint compound
By James Grokman, CEO, TapeAndFloat · Updated 2026-10-28
Ready-mix (premixed) compound comes wet in a bucket or box and hardens as it dries. All-purpose, taping and lightweight topping types are common.
Why it matters on a drywall job
- It's easy to use straight from the bucket, but drying time depends on weather and humidity.
- The type you choose affects material count and sanding time.
