Free drywall daily report template (English + Spanish)
By James Grokman, CEO, TapeAndFloat · Updated 2026-10-28
A drywall daily report is a one-line-per-day record of what a crew did on a job: who was there, hours, rooms and sheets done, stage, materials, delays and any extra work spotted. This free bilingual template has column headers in English and Spanish so the office can log updates from Spanish-speaking crews.
The column headers are in both languages. The EJEMPLO row is sample data, not a real job.
Why daily reports matter on drywall jobs
- Extra work shows up on site first. The crew is usually the first to hear "can you add the closet too?" If it lands on the daily report the same day, the office can write a change order before it gets forgotten.
- Progress for pay apps. When you bill progress on a pay application, a dated record of rooms and sheets done makes it easier to back up your percent complete if the GC asks.
- Delays. If the electrician wasn't done or the material didn't show, a note written that day is easier to stand behind than memory weeks later.
- Materials. "Material needed" tells the office what to order before the crew runs out.

How to use it
- One row per crew, per job, per day. Keep one file per job, or one file for the week with a Job column filter.
- Have the crew lead text the report. Most crew leads won't open a spreadsheet from the truck. Give them the text format below and have them send it before they leave.
- The office copies it into the sheet. Fill the columns from the text the same evening. Ask about anything missing (see the phrases below).
- Flag extra work right away. If the "extra work" column has anything, start a change order using the change order template and get it approved in writing.
- Check photos. Ask for before-and-after photos of extra work and problem areas, and note Y/N so you know what you have.
- Sign off. Whoever reviewed the row puts their name in "Signed off by".

Frequently asked questions
What is a drywall daily report?
A short record, written each day, of what a crew did on a job: who was there, hours, rooms and sheets done, stage of work, materials, delays, extra work and safety notes. Some offices call it a daily log or crew log.
Who should fill out the daily report?
Usually the crew lead sends the information and the office puts it in the sheet. The template works either way; what matters is that it gets filled in the same day.
Can the crew just text the report?
Yes. Give the crew lead the bilingual text format on this page. The office copies each text into a row of the CSV.
Is a note about extra work on the daily report a change order?
No. It is a heads-up that extra work may have been asked for or done. You still need a change order with scope and price, approved in writing, ideally before the work starts.
Does a daily report help with pay apps?
It can. A dated record of rooms and sheets done each day makes it easier to support the percent complete you bill and to answer a GC who questions it.
Do I need TapeAndFloat to use this template?
No. The CSV is free and works in Excel or Google Sheets with no sign-up. TapeAndFloat is a separate AI office assistant that reads the texts and emails you forward, in English or Spanish, and keeps jobs, crews and money straight in a Google Sheet; when a forwarded text mentions extra work, it lands as a change order marked "Needs review".
