Free drywall material order template (English + Spanish)
By James Grokman, CEO, TapeAndFloat · Updated 2026-10-28
A drywall material order (or takeoff list) is the list of board, mud, tape, corner bead, screws and other material a job needs, by area, with the supplier, PO number and delivery date. This free bilingual template has column headers in English and Spanish so the office can order the right material, check each delivery and catch extras that should become a change order.
The column headers are in both languages. The EJEMPLO row is sample data with placeholders like [qty], not a real job or a real order.
Why a material order list matters for a drywall sub
- Short deliveries. If nobody counts the load against the order, a missing stack of board shows up when the crew runs out halfway through a room. A "Received / checked" column makes someone count it the day it lands.
- Wrong board type. Regular board where the plans call for Type X or moisture-resistant board can mean tearing it out later. Writing the size and type on every row, per area, makes the order easy to check against the plans.
- Stocking mistakes. Board left in the garage instead of on the floor where it's needed costs the crew time. A "Deliver to / stocking location" column tells the supplier exactly where it goes.
- Extra material that should become a change order. When the GC adds a room or changes the board type, the extra material is part of the extra work. Write it on a change order before you order, so it gets approved and billed instead of eaten.

How to use it
- One row per item per area. First floor board, second floor board and bathroom board are separate rows. It's more typing, but it's what lets you check the order against the plans and the delivery against the order.
- Start from your takeoff. Fill in quantities from your own takeoff of the plans. Our free drywall bid calculator can help you work out board, mud, tape and screw quantities from your measurements.
- Write size and type on every board row. 1/2" regular, 5/8" Type X, moisture-resistant: check each row against the plans before you send the order.
- Send the order and get it confirmed. Use the bilingual order message below, with the PO number, delivery date, stocking location and an on-site contact. Ask the supplier to confirm.
- Check the delivery against the order. When material arrives, count it row by row, mark "Received / checked" and write anything short or wrong in Notes, then call the supplier the same day.
- Flag extras. If the GC asks for more rooms, another board type or anything not in the original scope, mark the row as extra in Notes and write a change order before the material goes up on the wall.

Frequently asked questions
What is a drywall material order template?
A list of the material a job needs (board, mud, tape, corner bead, screws and so on) by area or floor, with size and type, quantity, unit, supplier, PO number, delivery date, where to stock it and who checked the delivery.
Why one row per item per area?
So the order matches the plans room by room. If the bathrooms need moisture-resistant board and the garage needs Type X, separate rows make each one easy to check, and a short delivery shows exactly which area is missing material.
How do I check a delivery against the order?
Count the material when it arrives, row by row, and compare it with the quantity, size and type on the sheet. Mark "Received / checked", write anything short or wrong in Notes, and call the supplier the same day.
What should I do with extra material the GC asks for?
Treat it as extra work. Write a change order with the added material and labor, get it approved in writing, and add it to the next invoice. Mark the row as extra in Notes so it isn't missed.
How do I figure the quantities?
Use your own takeoff from the plans. Our free drywall bid calculator can help you work out board, mud, tape and screws from your measurements. Check the quantities with your supplier before you order.
Do I need TapeAndFloat to use this template?
No. The CSV is free and works in Excel or Google Sheets with no sign-up. TapeAndFloat is a separate AI office assistant that keeps jobs, crews and money straight in a Google Sheet and flags change orders with no written approval or no matching invoice line, so extras don't go unbilled.
