Free drywall punch list template (English + Spanish)
By James Grokman, CEO, TapeAndFloat · Updated 2026-10-28
A drywall punch list is a list of small items still to fix before a job is closed out: nail pops, tape cracks, dings, missed spots, corner bead and texture touch-ups. This free bilingual template has column headers in English and Spanish so the office can track each item from the walk to the fix, with crews that work in Spanish.
The column headers are in both languages. The EJEMPLO row is sample data, not a real job.
Why a punch list matters for a drywall sub
- Getting paid at the end. The last payment and any retainage held back usually wait until the punch items are done. A clear list of what's open and what's fixed helps you show the GC you're finished and ask for retainage release.
- Avoiding back-charges. If an item isn't written down, it's easy for a dispute to start later about who was supposed to fix it. A dated list with photos and sign-offs makes it clear what was on your list and when it was done.
- Clear closeout. One list, one item per line, and a "Checked by" on every fix means everyone agrees on when the drywall scope is done.
- Less back-and-forth with the crew. The finisher gets exact spots and photos instead of "fix the stuff in unit 3".

How to use it
- Walk the job with the GC or super. Do the punch walk together so you both agree on what's on the list. Bring a phone for photos.
- One item per line. Don't lump "touch-ups in unit 3" into one row. Each nail pop area, crack or ding gets its own line with the room and the exact spot.
- Take a photo and note the photo ref. Put the photo file name or number in "Photo ref" so anyone can find it later.
- Assign it and set a due date. Put who is fixing it and when. Send each item to the finisher with the text format below.
- Get a photo back when it's fixed. Fill in "Fixed date" and change the status.
- Sign off. Have the GC or super check fixed items and put their name in "Checked by". When every line is checked, send the list with your final invoice.

These use the informal "tú" most offices use when texting crews. Switch to "usted" if that's how you talk with your crew.

Frequently asked questions
What is a drywall punch list?
A list of small items still to fix before the drywall scope is finished, such as nail pops, tape cracks, dings, missed spots, corner bead and texture touch-ups. Each item is tracked until it's fixed and checked.
Who should walk the punch list?
Ideally the drywall sub's foreman or office walks it together with the GC or superintendent, so both sides agree on the same list from the start.
Why one item per line?
So nothing gets lost. Each line can have its own room, exact spot, photo, person assigned and sign-off, and you can see at a glance what's still open.
Can the crew get punch items by text?
Yes. Use the bilingual text format on this page to send each item to the finisher, and ask for a photo back when it's fixed. The office updates the CSV.
Does a finished punch list help me get paid?
It can. The final payment and retainage often wait on closeout, and a list showing every item fixed and checked makes it easier to show the GC your scope is done. Check your contract for the exact terms.
Do I need TapeAndFloat to use this template?
No. The CSV is free and works in Excel or Google Sheets with no sign-up. TapeAndFloat is a separate AI office assistant that reads the texts and emails you forward, in English or Spanish, and keeps jobs, crews and money straight in a Google Sheet.
